#115 player Class of 2015
6’7 220 pound SF
Iona Prep (NY)
Q1. Engelhardt: What schools are currently recruiting you the hardest?
A1. Ryan: Notre Dame, Stanford, North Carolina, Duke, Marquette, Michigan, Creighton and Arizona State
Q2. Engelhardt: Do you have any visits planned for the summer?
A2. Ryan: Not at the moment, right now all of my focus is on getting my body right so I can play at Nationals.
Q3. Engelhardt: What are some of the things you are looking for in a potential school?
A3. Ryan: Having a great relationship with the coaches is the main thing. A family atmosphere, big fan base and good academics are also very important aspects.
Q4. Engelhardt: How’s the injury? When do you expect to be back on the court?
Q4. Ryan: Rehab and therapy is going great. I’ve been on the court every day for the last few weeks doing anything I can to improve.
Q5. Engelhardt: What do you consider to be the strengths of your game?
A5. Ryan: Everybody knows I’m a top shooter in the country, but when I come back people are going to see a whole different player. I was a point guard my whole life so those skills will come on display. I think multiple plays ahead when I’m on the floor, I can really pass it and I love setting others up. I also have a very good post game and mid range game; which people haven’t really seen yet so I’m excited to get back.
Q6. Engelhardt: Before playing on the next level, what part of your game do you need to work on the most?
A6. Ryan: Before college: I need to improve defensively and get my ball handling to a top level. I’m 6’7 220 pounds now so I’ll put on some more weight too.
Q7. Engelhardt: What current/former NBA player do you model your game after?
A7. Ryan: I watch a lot of Larry Bird film, I also try to steal some of James Harden’s moves and pay attention to his craftiness. I model my catch and shoot game after Klay Thompson.
Q8. Engelhardt: Have you thought about transferring to a bigger prep school to play with/against better talent? If so what schools are you considering?
A8. Ryan: Absolutely, I’m considering Montverde Academy (FL), Huntington Prep (WV), Vermont Academy (VT) and St. Thomas More School (CT)
Q9. Engelhardt: What type of drills do you find most beneficial to your game?
A9. Ryan: Coming off screen drills with and without the ball, 1 on 1 moves, different options off the catch depending on defender and dribbling.
Q10. Engelhardt: What are your goals for your senior season?
A10. Ryan: Wherever I am the main goal is to win a championship. Individually, I want to get as ready as possible so I can make an impact as a freshman in college.
Q11. Engelhardt: Your injury was a torn hip labrum, right?
A11. Ryan: Yes, both sides. Surgery went perfect. I’m 15 weeks out of surgery and only have a few more weeks to go!
Q12. Engelhardt: Do you have a timetable on your decision?
A12. Ryan: I’m going to take my visits in September and October and decide before the season.
Engelhardt: Great answers man, thanks for taking time to do an interview. Good luck with your comeback and recruiting!
Ryan: Thank you, I appreciate it!
